Kidney Stones Treatment

By Amy Brandy

Treating kidney stones these days is very easy. It is now a problem which can be rectified even without undergoing a surgery. It is very rarely that surgery has to be done to remove the stones. Stones mostly come out in the urine naturally. The size and the shape of the stone is what determine the type of treatment required.

Kidney stones treatment starts with relieving the patient of the pain and then by removing the stone from the kidney. When you visit your doctor with the symptoms he will first run some tests on you. An x-ray is more than enough and will show all the stones present in your kidney. In some cases a scan, urine and blood tests maybe suggested to see the shape, size and location of the stone.

Once it is diagnosed that you have kidney stones the doctor will start by first giving you some pain killers. This will help reduce the pain. If there is any infection, the doctor may prescribe some antibiotics too. The patient is put on some IV fluids to ensure that he doesn’t get dehydrated. A strict diet has to be followed till the stones are passed out of the body.

A stone that is removed or pass out in the urine doesn’t mean you are free from this trouble. Stones can form again and there are no medications available to stop them. Maintaining a healthy diet and eating a well balanced meal is of utmost importance if you have or have had stones.

After a couple of days the doctor will tell you about all the different kinds of treatments available and will also let you know which is best suited in your case. The smaller stones will be left to come out in the urine and the bigger stones will be removed via various procedures. The Procedures to break kidney stones into smaller bits are both invasive and non-invasive. It has become very rare that surgery has to be performed to remove kidney stones.

The kidney stones are normally the size of a tomato seed but the pain it can cause you is unbearable. Once the stone comes out, the pain will also stop at once. The kidney stones can be washed away by drinking a lot of fluids or even by going on a juice diet.

Eating a healthy diet, drinking a lot of water and by avoiding intake of extra calcium or other stone forming chemicals will help you a lot. There is no permanent cure for renal calculi and so it is must to do all that you can prevent it from occurring again.

A lot of over the counter medication are available but it is best to consult a doctor. The pain you have is already enough; don’t create more complications by taking medications that are not prescribed by an authorized medical practitioner.
