Brussels Boasts a Packed Winter Events Calendar

The capital of the European Union, Brussels is a city with a lot going for it. Having risen from its modest beginnings as a 10th century fortress, it has grown to become a flourishing, lively city bursting with a host of cultural attractions and activities to pursue. Its annual events calendar is what gives the city its soul however, and this is no truer than in the winter time.

A great way to see the city, Sablon Nights is the perfect opportunity to take to the streets and soak up the beautiful antiques quarter. Attracting around 20,000 visitors every year, the shops in the area stay open late, meaning it is possible to check out the antiques and jewellery on offer, as well as the famous Belgian chocolate. Running for three days in November, there are also a number of performances to watch out for.

Taking place annually, in early December, Modo Bruxelle is the event to head to for the fashionistas of you out there. Offering up bargains galore, a host of Belgian fashion designers put on a two-day designer sale extravaganza filled with a selection of their fashion creations. As such, it is a real treat for those looking to pick up something a little more unusual.

Also held in December, the Belgian Cinema Fête is another great event to attend. Showcasing a host of new films from the cream of the Belgian filmmaking crop, there are six days of screenings to take advantage of. The programme additionally includes a range of concerts and talks dealing with the subject of film.

Transforming into a winter wonderland, complete with ice rink, Christmas tree and festive market stalls, the Winter Wonders and Christmas Market is not to be missed out on. About to enter its fifth year, there is a superb selection of fairground rides, live music performances and sledging to discover.

Not only that, but due to its location at the Bourse, around the Place Sainte Catherine and the Marché aux Poissons, it provides visitors with the ideal opportunity to see some of the city’s key sights.
